OMG! Fire Camp: Festival of the Fire Arts… the Steel Yard’s annual open house is only one week a way! You in? Bring your friends, bring your family, heck, just bring anyone you want and experience all of the sights and sounds that the Steel Yard has to offer. We’ll be pouring some iron, throwing some pots, welding a few tiles… and so can you! There’ll be a Yardie art & craft sale along with live demonstrations in torch cutting, blacksmithing, ceramics and jewelry! Join us for a tour of our industrial arts studio, listen to cool music, and enjoy amazing food and beverage from local businesses. And are you ready for this?! I don’t think you are: demonstrations this year are happening INSIDE THE STUDIO… that’s right, you’ll get to walk-through our historic studio building and get to see what we do- where we do it.

What time is the event?
3PM – 8PM, rain or shine!
Where is The Steel Yard located?
The Steel Yard. 27 Sims Ave Providence RI 02909. This is an outdoor space. Please plan accordingly.
Is there a rain date?
No, We will proceed with the event rain or shine! But rain may affect some of the demonstrations and activities. 
Is there indoor space?
The Steel Yard is typically an OUT DOOR ONLY VENUE but this year we are opening the doors to our industrial arts studio this year! We invite guests to walk-through the designated areas and check-out the demonstrations of blacksmithing, ceramics, jewelry and torch cutting! 
How much is it to get in?
FREE! No admission fees, no tickets, so just down to the Yard and say hey!
Will there be alcohol?
We will be serving beer at the Yardie Bar for $5 generously from our friends and Yardies at Revival Brewing Company. Served to 21+ only (duh!) so bring your IDs if you plan to get an adult beverage. Only while supplies last!
What are the demonstrations?
We have some of the best Yardies providing demonstrations of Blacksmithing, Ceramics & Jewelry and the Acetylene Torch!  
What are you selling?
We’ll be debuting an ALL NEW LINE of Steel Yard merch. We’ll have customizable Sand Mold Tiles for $20, Raku pots $20 and Steel Plates that you can have welding or cut into your own designs for $10. Last call for Iron Pour Tiles will be 5:45 pm. Last call for Raku Pots will be 6:30pm. And last call for Steel Plates will be 6:45pm. Please plan accordingly!
What’s a Sand Mold Tile?
Sand Mold tiles are designed to have molten iron poured into them, when they cool off, you end up with a piece of Iron in the shape of whatever you carved into it! Pretty cool right? What you’ll do is purchase a voucher, redeem it at the Iron station for a Sand Mold Tile…. then carve your design! Volunteers will help you carve whatever you want into it. (Just remember! You’re carving a relief and that means you’ll get the mirrored image of whatever you carve!) THEN you’ll get to see our Pour Crew pour the molten Iron into the molds! Guests get to go home with their Iron tiles at the end of the event.
What’s a Raku Pot?
Raku generally refers to a type of low-firing process that was inspired by traditional Japanese raku firing. Western-style raku usually involves removing pottery from the kiln while at bright red heat and placing it into containers with combustible materials. What you’ll do is purchase a voucher, redeem it at the Raku Station for a raku pot…. then you get to glaze your pot! Volunteers will help you with the glazing process. THEN you’ll get to see our Raku Crew fire your pot in a kiln! Guests get to go home with their customized Pots at the end of the event.
What’s a Steel Plate?
We’ll be bead welding designs on customized steel plates at Fire Camp. What you’ll do is purchase a voucher, redeem it at the Plate station for a steel plate…. then draw your design with markers! Volunteers will help you with the drawing process. THEN we’ll send your drawing off to our Welding Crew who will follow your lines with the Mig Welder. Guests get to go home with their welded designed plates at then end of the event.
Can I bring my kids?
You bet! Fire Camp is a Free, Family Friendly and all ages event!
Can I bring my dog?
Yes! As long your pups are on a leash! Bring waste bags just in case! Just keep in mind that PETS will not be allowed INSIDE the studio for the tours. If that’s an issue we suggest leaving your furry friends at home.
Where do I park?
Parking is ON STREET ONLY on Sims and Harris Ave. There are no parking lots available to guests. 
What kind of food will be at the event?
We will have local vendors serving you food who can accept cash or credit!
Will there be entertainment?
You got it! We’ll have DJ Uncle Thirsty spinning some of your favorite tunes and then we have special guest Jacob Haller joining us to play a few songs!
What’s the Garage/Yard Sale?
We have a TON of studio equipment and furniture, tools, supplies, machines etc. that we’ll be selling!
What’s the Art Sale?
Many of our Yardie artists will be setting up tables to sell their ceramics and jewelry.

By Bus:
The Steel Yard is along RIPTA bus route #92 from Kennedy Plaza or Rhode Island College. Get off the bus on the Atwells Avenue stop by Eagle Square. Walk down Harris Ave, towards the Mall, and take a left onto Sims Ave. The Steel Yard office is located on the first floor of the brick building halfway down the street.
From 95 North: Take exit 22c (Providence Place Mall) at the end of the ramp take a right on to Kinsley Ave. Take the next available right on to Harris Ave (if you reach the mall you have gone too far). From Harris Ave. take a right onto Sims Ave. The Steel Yard office is located on the first floor of the brick building halfway down the street on the left.
