PUBLIC ART & COMMISSIONS
Design to Fabrication to Installation
Anyone can hire the Public Projects department at The Steel Yard. We design, fabricate and install custom artwork for the public realm. We’re project managers and we’ll work with you every step of the way from creative concept to final installation.
We specialize in making functional and artistic street amenities (trashcans, bike racks, benches, fences, etc). We also create and manage fine art installations. View our portfolio to check out some of our projects.
When you hire Public Projects you’ll get more than a custom piece; you’re helping beautify neighborhoods, build community, pay local artists and craftspeople, and support training for low-income Rhode Islanders. You can also be confident that you’re receiving high-quality work at competitive prices.
HOW TO GET STARTED
Step 1. Make a request
All projects start with a conversation, so take a moment to fill out our Public Request Form.
Step 2. Consultation & Paperwork
We discuss your request with you, provide an estimate and then draft up the contracts.
Step 3. Design
We hire the right local artist team to create a design for your project that you review and approve.
Step 4. Fabricate
We make it! A skilled team of local artists fabricates your project using locally sourced materials.
Step 5. Install
We install the project upon request and coordinate installations with state and local authorities.
