Description

Design, build, and wire your own standing ceramic lamp! This six week class is designed for people with previous handbuilding experience who are excited about the possibilities of light as a sculptural and functional element. We will plan out how electrical components will fit and function within our designs, we’ll explore construction using slab and coil building, and we’ll cover basic wiring techniques.

Each student will be provided with the same electrical components: a socket, bulb, plug, switch, and 6 feet of lamp wire. We will also cover sourcing a wider variety of lamp components that students can order on their own. Students will receive a complimentary 25-pound bag of cone 6 clay but may need to purchase additional clay for their personal projects. Enrollment in this course includes additional access to one monitored Open Studio session per week.

Unfinished student work should be picked up within two weeks of the last class.
