Description
This hands-on introductory course introduces students to foundational techniques in ceramic handbuilding, including pinch, coil, slab, and simple mold making. Students can choose to create functional or sculptural forms while learning surface decoration and glazing techniques. Demos will include advanced options for those looking to explore further—such as underglaze monoprinting on plaster and newsprint, building up forms with paper slip, and making custom ceramic press and sprig molds. Whether you’re new to clay or returning with fresh ideas, this course encourages craftsmanship, curiosity, and personal expression through the full ceramic process—from wet clay to finished, fired work.
Open studio hours to work on projects during the course are included. Open studio runs Monday (3-6pm), Thursday (3-6pm) and Friday (5-8pm). Students will have access to 4 open studio sessions during their course.
