Volunteering at the Yard 2021

First things first: If you’re interested in volunteering at The Steel Yard you should def subscribe to our monthly volunteer emails and updates!

Ok, now that we’ve got that covered… if you’ve been waiting/looking for the perfect time to start your volunteering adventure at The Steel Yard- NOW IS THAT TIME! Whether you’ve been to the Yard a million times or it’s your first we need all the help we can get with all our upcoming projects.

Everyone is welcome to attend any volunteer day we just require pre-registration through Eventbrite (those links are listed below)

YARD WORK (Tuesdays & 2ND Saturdays)

Every Tuesday from 1 PM – 4 PM & Second Saturday of the month 10 AM – 2 PM
We work together (cleaning, organizing, building, painting, etc.) to keep the Steel Yard lookin’ great. Volunteer Days at the Steel Yard are an awesome way to help out in a fun, creative, and welcoming community. Spend a few hours or a whole day working on various projects around the Yard. We try and match up your skills and interests with our volunteer projects if you’d like, or, you can try something completely new! It’s a BIG yard and we need as much help as we can get!

IRON POUR FAB NIGHTS (Wednesdays & Fridays)

Every Wednesday & Friday 6 PM – 9 PM
That’s right! This October… coming to a Steel Yard near you, returns our spectacular and over-the-top signature event: The Halloween Iron Pour. Every year Yardie Volunteers build larger-than-life sculptures under the supervision of staff to be activated with molten iron during the October event. Starting July 21st we’ll be gathering at The Steel Yard every Wednesday and Friday from 6 PM – 9 PM to design & fabricate the 2021 props. Whether you’re a seasoned and experienced volunteer or it’s your first time at the Yard… ALL ARE WELCOME AND INVITED TO PARTICIPATE.

How do I sign-up to volunteer?
Pre-registration through Eventbrite is required to participate.

Do I need any special skills to volunteer?
Welders and Foundry Folks! We’re looking for you! That being said we have various volunteer projects for all different skill levels. We welcome everyone to join us. There are LOT of special projects that require the proper training on various tools and equipment. Be sure to check in with a staff person about any special skills or training that you have.

What should I wear?
At the Steel Yard ALWAYS be prepared to get a little dirty. Wear comfortable clothes, closed-toed shoes, and natural fabrics like cotton and wool. We’ll provide all the safety equipment and gear depending on the project.

Should I bring anything?
Water bottle and snacks! Check the weather, sometimes we work outside so wear plenty of sun protection as well.

Can anyone volunteer?
You bet! Whether it’s moving in, fab nights, or our SSVD- volunteer opportunities are open to the public. Everyone who volunteers MUST check in first and sign the LIABILITY WAIVER before getting to work.

How old do you have to be to volunteer?
All minors (under the age of 18) who participate in volunteer opportunities MUST have a parent/guardian sign a LIABILITY WAIVER before getting to work. Volunteers under the age of 14 MUST be with their parent/guardian at all times while volunteering at The Steel Yard.

I can’t make it the whole time, is that okay?
We ask that everyone plan and prepare to volunteer for the full 3 hours and arrive at 6 PM for the days they would like to help out.

I won’t be able to help out every week, is that okay?
