After salvaging, observing, and experimenting with found objects and materials, students will incorporate steel fabrication techniques to create a series of three-dimensional pieces. Metalworking processes such as forming and welding will be demonstrated and utilized, in addition to other skills and interests the students bring to the table. Expect to be affected by each other’s work and prepare to adapt to unpredictable circumstances. This class explores the process of creative production, so the overall experience is an important component to the stuff we come away with in the end. The course is open to all experience levels. Students are encouraged to bring their own found objects to the first class. Steel will be provided for practice and exercises, but students must pay for additional steel needed for their independent work.
