Description
In this course, students will learn about and utilize standard metalworking facilities to create their own imaginative sculptures and objects. We will begin class by looking at the work of contemporary sculptors using steel in their practices in unexpected ways. Students will then learn the basics of mig welding, plasma cutting, and angle grinding before sketching and constructing their own pieces. In addition to learning traditional metalworking and welding skills, students will also learn how to apply heat signatures and paint to their metal pieces. This class is all about learning and playing, so come ready to experiment and grow. Students will leave with physical objects, in addition to an expanded understanding of metalworking and its possibilities.
This class is for all skill levels. There will be lots of demos for students who have never worked with metal before as well as lots of time to work for those coming in with more experience.
Open studio hours to work on projects during the course are included. Open studio runs Monday (3-6pm), Thursday (3-6pm) and Sunday (5-8pm). Students will have access to 3 open studio sessions during their course.
