Description

Move from jewelry appreciation to creation by learning the fundamentals of jewelry-making. A range of hand-tool processes will be covered through practical exercises and imaginative concept-based projects. This course will review sawing, filing, soldering, scoring/bending, texturing, forming, linkages, wire construction and more. You’ll get technical skills, and gain design skills as your develop your ideas to realize your creative vision. No prior metal-smithing skills are necessary. Metal will be provided for practice, but students may need to pay for additional metal for their independent work.

DATES: MONDAYS 10/5/26 – 11/23/26

TIME: 6:30 – 9:30 PM

SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER

Open studio hours to work on projects during the course are included. Open studio runs Monday (3-6pm), Thursday (3-6pm) and Sunday (5-8pm). Students will have access to 3 open studio sessions during their course.

INSTRUCTOR BIO

Alison Bruun is a metalsmith with 30 years of experience making jewelry and working in light metals. She received her MFA from UMass Dartmouth and has been teaching at The Steel Yard for 11 years. She can’t wait to help you make something beautiful.
