Description

This class will use the wheel in combination with other hand building methods to create large pots and vessels. Students will make larger and more complex shapes that build off of their knowledge of the wheel, such as potting planters, chalices, larger vases and yard sculptures.  Students should be prepared to think BIG and be ready to push themselves creatively to make unique forms and shapes in clay!

DATE:  TUESDAYS  9/22/26 – 10/27/26

TIME:  6:30 – 9:30 PM

SKILL LEVEL:  INTERMEDIATE, ADVANCED

This class is designed for intermediate students who have some experience with wheel throwing. Open studio hours to work on projects during the course are included.  Open studio runs Monday (3-6pm), Thursday (3-6pm) and Sunday(5-8pm). Students will have access to 4 open studio sessions during their course.

Unfinished student work should be picked up within two weeks of last class.

INSTRUCTOR BIO

Ava Moniz is a ceramicist and video artist born and raised near Providence, Rhode Island. As a local, Moniz feels connected to the natural features the state has to offer, reflected in her ceramics via natural clay body exposed through layers of glazed brushstrokes on functional pottery. She believes everyone can find their own path to succeeding in wheel throwing and urges students to explore alternative ways of approaching the medium!
