VOLUNTEERING FAQ
Do I need any special skills to volunteer?
We have various volunteer projects for all different skill levels. We welcome everyone to join us. There are a LOT of special projects that require the proper training on various tools and equipment. Be sure to check-in with a staff person about any special skills or training that you have.
What should I wear?
At the Steel Yard ALWAYS be prepared to get a little dirty. Wear comfortable clothes, closed toed shoes, and natural fabrics like cotton and wool. We’ll provide all the safety equipment and gear depending on the project.
Should I bring anything?
Water bottle and snacks! Check the weather, sometimes we work outside so wear plenty of sun protection as well.
Can anyone volunteer?
You bet! Whether it’s moving in, fab nights or our SSVD- volunteer opportunities are open to the public. Everyone who volunteers MUST check-in first and sign the LIABILITY WAIVER before getting to work.
How old do you have to be to volunteer?
All minors (under age of 18) who participate in volunteer opportunities MUST have a parent/guardian sign a LIABILITY WAIVER before getting to work. Volunteers under the age of 14 MUST be with their parent/guardian at all times while volunteering at The Steel Yard.
I can’t make it for the whole time, is that okay?
Totally, we appreciate all the help we can get. Please be sure to check in with a Steel Yard staff member prior to getting to work.
