2020 METALS RESIDENTS EXPAND FOUNDRY PROGRAM AT THE YARD

Welcome to a new age at The Steel Yard… The age of BRONZE and the age of ALUMINUM! That’s right – thanks to our fantastic 2019 – 2020 Metals Residents the Yard has been once again skyrocketed into the future of metalworking… well sort of.

Last week, the Residents gathered to pour molds utilizing both aluminum and bronze- something we haven’t been able to do here at the Yard in quite some time.

Guest Foundry Artist, Calvin Hubbard revived and relined an old furnace, reworking all of its burners. It’s what we like to call a brand new old furnace. It worked beautifully. The team made a bunch of successful and cool molds! You will see some of this work at the Resident Exhibition scheduled later this year.

Now that we have a functioning bronze and aluminum furnace it will expand our Residency Foundry and lead to potential future foundry courses. Interested in getting involved? Check out our Residency page and apply for the upcoming season!
