Friday, May 18th, 2018. The Steel Yard kicked off our event season by partnering with Rhode Island Public Radio (RIPR) to celebrate their two-part 20th birthday party by throwing a punk show featuring Neutral Nation and Lolita Black … and it rocked! 500 guests gathered at the Yard for a loud, in your face, and remarkable homage to art and the rebels who make it!
They were able to demonstrate that the arts are a powerful tool for showing that difference is a source of strength, of pride, and of connection. RIPR announced that they were able to raise $20,000 to support the creation of an Arts + Culture News Desk as part of Sound + Vision: The Campaign.
RIPR went all out for Friday night’s party and commissioned an all metal tree by AM Design & Fabrication. The life size piece will be later installed in the home of RIPR’s future art news deck. Check out this link to watch Yardie’s talk about the future art desk in an interview with Steer productions. The tree is decorated with iron cast leaves each individually customized as a thank you to the many amazing RIPR donors.
They didn’t stop there, the event included a live production Iron pour where guests make a donation and watch their leaves be formed in real time… afterwards hung on the tree to cool for all the party to see!
In addition to the pour- The Steel Yard was so excited to have our friends and partners around the corner, Gather Glass, join us to provide glass blowing demonstrations and sell their work. We also welcomed a plethora of Steel Yard artists set up shop to sell their ceramics, jewelry and other pieces.
