The Steel Yard was thrilled to sponsor the Wilbury Theatre Group this year as part of FringePVD. The group brought a four day spectacle right here in the center of our Yard on July 24th- 29th. The partnership activated our space in a miraculous way and turned the whole campus into a living stage! Props to Laughing Gorilla/ Revival brewing Co. for providing the wonderful beer and of course to our friends at Friskie Fries for doing what they do best, french fries!
The Wilbury Theatre Group provided two amazing productions of, The Revel, written by Damon Kiely with music by Jess McIntosh and lyrics by Kiely and McIntosh, as well as the The My Way Murders written and directed by Brien Lang.
Loosely adapted from the “Bacchae” by Euripides. The Revel was originally developed and produced the House Theatre of Chicago, IL. We could not have asked for a more perfect production here at the yard- the story, taking place primarily on a mountain top in the center of a broken factory town, did not merely take place on the hill but transformed it by enhancing what was already here.
Later that night, a radically different, almost anarchistic production of The My Way Murders took place. Guests witnessed an irreverent and comically self-aware play that almost felt like sitting in the audience of a Rocky Horror Picture show- rich with violence, blood and original music.
We’re so thankful to have been able partner with these artists, makers and characters! Here’s to next year and bringing more theatre to the Yard!
