Description

If you’re new to ceramics, this one-night workshop is designed to give you the opportunity to play with clay while learning the basic techniques of wheel throwing. You’ll will learn about wedging clay, using a potter’s wheel, centering clay, and opening the clay to create a vessel. This workshop is open to all levels. Materials and tools will be provided. Since the class is one night only, you won’t finish your work, just enjoy the experience of trying something new!

INSTRUCTOR BIO

Fred Gorman

Originally a native of Rhode Island, Fredric Gorman studied 2D Fine Arts at RISD and Massachusetts College of Art and Design. He spent many years in Amsterdam working as a visual effects designer for a Dutch broadcasting company. After a long creative journey he returned to Rhode Island to do a ceramics residency at the Steel Yard. He was previously the Steel Yard’s Ceramics Fellow and has taught at The Steel Yard for 12 years. As a functional potter he has made dinnerware for North and Big King restaurants in Providence and Bywater restaurant in Warren.

“I like to create rich surfaces on my work by either combining several printed
layers with multiple firings or utilizing atmospheric firing techniques.”
