On June 9th and 10th the Steel Yard welcomed Ocean State BBQ Fest back to the yard for the 2nd Annual 2 day competition and music festival! Over the course of 2 days, 11 teams competed for best BBQ in four categories while close to 1,000 guests rocked and enjoyed the grub! With an emphasis on Local smokers, Local brews, and Local music!
While our great state is known for fantastic seafood worldwide, our Ocean State BBQ Fest aims to put us on the map for BBQ The Ocean State BBQ Festival puts a spotlight on Rhode Island’s smoked meat-eating culture with an emphasis on celebrating the best BBQ in our state. The event is brought to you by the organizers of the like-minded Ocean State Oyster Festival. The event followed Best Of Smoke-Off competition, KCBS (Kansas City BBQ Society) rules and plans to return next year as part of the national competition. TheTeam competition categories were BRISKET, PULLED PORK, CHICKEN, and RIBS. All stayed overnight here in the yard to smoke on-site overnight for all 4 categories.
A ticket to the OSBBQ Festival provided party goers in with samples from all food vendors, plus a complimentary beer, cocktail, soda or water.
Food was provided by Gotta-Q BBQ, Great Northern BBQ Co., El Rancho Grande, Smoke & Squeal BBQ, New England Smoker Rentals, Flatbread Grilled Pizza, Mike’s Ice Truck, Sin Desserts
Beverages were supplies by Revival Brewing, Shiner Bock, Farmer Willie’s Ginger Beer, Little Bitte Artisinal Cocktails, Yacht Club Sodas, New Harvest Coffee.Guests were entertained by DADDY LONG LEGS (NYC), DJ TY JESSO, Z-BOYS, THE QUAHOGS, DJ UNKLE THIRSTY, RAVI SHAVI, THE RED PENNYS, DJ RED DAWN, THE LOW CARDS, THE YOU ROCK SELECT BAND, BISCUIT CITY, THE BARLEY HOPPERS, CWRECK and JUNIOR BEAT.
It was an amazing event enjoyed by people of all ages- kids played in the yard, people made bets on chicken-poo bingo and was spectacularly organized, we can’t wait until next year! Special thanks to Frank and Don!
