Summer 2020: Camp Copperhead
3 in stock
At Camp Copperhead students will spend the week designing and making their own jewelry. Students in this one-week intensive will acquire a solid set of technical skills, and will also exercise their creative design skills. The non-technical side of the class focuses on idea development and the critical-thinking skills needed to realize a vision. This course will review sawing, filing, soldering, scoring/bending, texturing, forming, linkages, wire construction and more. This is a great opportunity to explore jewelry making for the first time.
All Summer Camp programs are limited to participants ages 14 through 18. No previous experience necessary. All materials, safety equipment, and will be provided.
The Steel Yard offers scholarships for all of our youth summer camps, which make our open enrollment courses accessible to students who may not otherwise be able to afford this unique industrial arts opportunity.
We have a limited number of subsidized enrollments set aside in each camp that covers the cost of tuition and materials. Scholarship applications must be received by June 15, 2020 to be considered for this opportunity.
The Steel Yard is located at 27 Sims Avenue, Providence RI 02909
WHAT TO WEAR
For all courses, students must wear a pair of close-toed shoes like sneakers or boots (no sandals, no flip-flops, no peep-toe pumps). Also, you should dress expecting to get a little dirty. Art is messy. In addition, students in metalworking courses must wear clothes made from either cotton or wool—synthetic fabrics like fleece and polyester are not safe near an open flame. Pants are required and long sleeves are recommended. Any clothing that has been frayed is not permitted. The studio is well stocked with heavy-duty welding jackets, but if you have your own, feel free to bring it.
All students are required to fully read the Steel Yard Registration & Enrollment Policies before attending the first class. Registrants who withdraw from a course at least 10 days prior to the course’s start date may receive a refund, less a $40 registration fee. There are no refunds or rescheduling within 10 days. By not budgeting for cancellations, The Steel Yard is able to keep costs as low as possible for our students.
