Description
Over this six week course, students will learn the basics of metalworking and put their thinking caps on to design and fabricate a prop used during our most popular event: the Iron Pour!
The class will introduce the MIG welder, plasma cutter, the oxygen-acetylene torch, various metal saws, and grinders. Students will learn how to heat, cut, join, bend, and polish; and will work together as a team to group design and fabricate a sculpture that will play a prominent role in the Halloween Iron Pour.
No previous experience is necessary—this is a great opportunity to explore metalworking for the first time. Materials, safety equipment and tools will be provided. Enrollment includes additional access to one monitored Open Studio session per week, either on Thursday afternoons from 3:00pm – 6:00pm, Fridays from 5:30pm – 8:30pm, or Sunday evenings from 5:00pm – 8:00pm.
Students enrolled in this course are invited to attend the Iron Pour and Sims Ave Festival on November 2nd, so they can see their sculpture in action – activated by molten iron! Students will also receive merch swag bags, including a coveted Iron Pour Hoodie!
