Description

In this class students will learn how to create a cohesive set of functional tableware. Each week will focus on a particular vessel with demonstrations of both hand building and wheel throwing methods to execute each form. An emphasis will be placed on both the design of the forms as well as surface decoration that will carry through to the entire set. Surface decoration ideas and glazing techniques will be discussed and demonstrated. Students are encouraged to bring in sketchbooks. At the end of the course each student should have a set of matching tableware that should include at least one dinner plate, dessert plate, soup bowl and drinking vessel.

Students will receive a complimentary 25-pound bag of cone 6 clay but may need to purchase additional clay for their personal projects. All other materials and tools will be provided. Enrollment in this course includes additional access to one monitored Open Studio session per week.

Unfinished student work should be picked up within two weeks of the last class.
