Figure it out! Will be an intensive figurative ceramics class where we will be learning how to efficiently create a figure out of clay using the slab and coil method. In the first session we will create a maquette or small model of a figure from your imagination and we will lay the groundwork to scale it up while maintaining the gesture from your model. We will also work on proportions and expression. In the second session we will begin to finesse and add color and texture to your figures and get them ready for firing. After firing we will discuss staining and get the figures glazed.

No previous ceramics experience necessary—this class is open to all levels. Students will receive a complimentary 25-pound bag of cone 6 clay but may need to purchase additional clay for their personal projects. All other materials and tools will be provided.

Unfinished student work should be picked up within two weeks of the last class.
