**This course is intended to provide educational opportunities for those historically underrepresented and excluded from arts education, such as those who identify as black, indigenous, or a person of color (BIPOC)**

Students will have access to our ceramics studio and a knowledgeable instructor who will give weekly demonstrations that will guide students along their creative journey. This class is appropriate for students new to the field as well as the seasoned ceramicist looking to work on independent projects.

Beginners to the field of handbuilding will learn the basics of ancient techniques: pinch, slab and coil in order to learn a variety of skills that will yield unique ceramic vessels and sculptures of all shapes and sizes. Students will also have the opportunity to explore surface decorations and glazing techniques. All work will be bisque and glaze fired.

No previous ceramics experience necessary—this class is open to all levels. Students will receive a complimentary 25 pound bag of cone 6 clay. All other materials and tools will be provided. Enrollment in this course includes attendance to one additional monitored Community Studio Access session weekly, either on Thursday afternoons from 3:00pm – 6:00pm, Fridays from 5:30pm – 8:30pm, or Sunday evenings from 5:00pm – 8:00pm.

Unfinished student work should be picked up within two weeks of the last class.

With support from the Papitto Opportunity Connection, we are able to offer our BIPOC-centered courses at sliding scale. All of our classes are priced such that, as a not-for-profit educational organization, we are able to cover our overhead and pay artists a living wage. These BIPOC-centered classes have a suggested price in line with our standard pricing model, but consider using these guidelines to help you pay within your ability.
