This course is designed for the jeweler who has completed one or two intro courses but does not yet feel confident working independently in the studio. Feeling a little rusty? Don’t worry, the first class will review the basic skills. After that, we’ll take things a step further - students will be encouraged to take on more challenging projects while deepening their understanding of the materials and processes used. We will spend a little more time problem solving and trouble shooting at the soldering bench. We will further explore the possibilities of the flex shaft for finishing surfaces. Tools, safety equipment, brass and copper will be provided, and the instructor will help students navigate suppliers for any precious materials they may want. This course comes with access to complimentary Open Studio sessions while the course is in session.

Instructor Info: Alison Bruun:
Alison Bruun is a metalsmith and teaching artist located in Providence, RI. She took her first jewelry class for fun as an elective while studying music and anthropology at Tufts University. To feed her new addiction, she took a series of continuing education classes, got an apprenticeship with a goldsmith in England, and ultimately earned her MFA in Jewelry and Metals from UMass Dartmouth. She has taught adults and teens at Decordova, Fuller Craft, Worcester Center for Crafts, and Snowfarm, and is excited to be joining the staff at The Steel Yard.
