Lu Heintz

Lu Heintz began metalsmithing when she was fifteen. Her studio has produced sculpture and architectural commissions since she graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Sculpture in 2001. In 2003 she initiated the Blacksmithing program at the Steel Yard. From 2003-2006, Lu coordinated the studio, while she taught and expanded the educational programming. She remains an instructor teaching metalworking and metalsmithing. Lu has refined her skills through working with many metalsmiths. In 2005 she received a scholarship for extended study at Penland School of Crafts. In 2009 she lived in Mexico and studied coppersmithing with traditional masters. Her metalsmithing has been featured in trade magazines, and a recently published book 500 Metal Vessels. In the past few years, her sculptural work has been exhibited at many national venues, including: Perimeter Gallery (Chicago, IL), Brookfield Craft Center (CT), The RISD Museum (Providence, RI), The Center for Craft, Creativity and Design, (Hendersonville, NC), The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (TX), and the National Ornamental Metals Museum (Memphis, TN). Her second solo show, Molting, opened at The Kingston Museum of Contemporary Art (KMOCA, Kingston, NY) in June of 2009.
